A Kerala court has sentenced a 90-year-old man to three years in jail for sexually abusing a minor girl in Karimba village of Palakkad district. Special Judge Satish Kumar of the Accelerated Court has also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict for sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl living in the neighbourhood.
Special Public Prosecutor Nisha Vijayakumar said that the elder was convicted of sexual abuse under Section 7 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. Under Section 7 of the POCSO Act, there is a provision of imprisonment of minimum 3 years and maximum of 5 years. Vijayakumar said the court convicted the accused after recording the statements of nine witnesses and going through several documents filed by the prosecution.
A few days back, four minor girls were sexually assaulted in a convent. In fact, 4 persons were arrested for sexually assaulting 4 minor girls by entering a convent in South Kerala. According to information received from the accused, a woman police officer went to the convent and recorded the statement of the minor girls, in which it was found that they were being sexually abused for the past few days.
