The Omicron variant of Corona continues to wreak havoc in many countries of the world including India since the beginning of this year. Studies have found that Omicron’s sub-variants are more likely to cause infection by easily evading vaccination or by bypassing the immunity built up by prior infection. Experts believe that since the corona vaccines present around the world have been prepared by targeting the original variant of the virus. Now new variants are emerging in the corona virus with many mutations, due to which the risk of infection remains constant even after vaccination. Keeping this in mind, the US FDA has approved a booster shot of the vaccine specifically targeting Omicron.
According to media reports, Americans will start getting this “updated booster” shot from the beginning of next week. It is believed that this will help in controlling the risk of ongoing infection due to Omicron sub-variants to a great extent.
However, scientists have raised questions about the approval of this vaccine because there is no data available for testing it on humans yet. Meanwhile, India has also talked about launching such an updated booster vaccine soon. Let’s know about this vaccine.
