After facing worldwide criticism over the privacy of users, Google has introduced a new tool to remove personal information from Search. The tool, called ‘Results About You’, will allow users to directly request Google to remove Personal Identifiable Information (PII) including mobile numbers, emails and home addresses. However, initially this feature will be available only to some people using the Google app running on Android.
Google announced this privacy tool during its annual developer conference. According to the company, Android users can go to the ‘Results about you’ option through their profile page. From there they will be redirected to another page requesting Google to remove the PII. During this, information can be removed by clicking on the three dots that appear in the top-right corner of each result. Let us tell you that Google has got good signs for new experiments.
For now, have to adopt the long way
Currently, users have to go through a long way to remove any PII. This can be accomplished only by going through several options. ‘Results about you’ will also have filters related to the request like ‘All requests’, ‘In progress’ and ‘Approved’. Google had earlier said that when the company receives a request to remove the PII, it will go ahead with its investigation. Let us tell you, earlier this year, Google updated its policies to remove personally identifiable information.
