In view of the terrorist incidents and the danger on the border, the Indian Army has taken a big step. For the safety of the soldiers, the Indian Army has floated a tender to buy 62,500 Bulletproof Jackets (BPJs) for its frontline soldiers. These bulletproof jackets will be helpful in protecting the soldiers from steel core bullets being used by terrorists. Army officials have informed about its procurement process.
According to information provided by Indian Army officials, the Ministry of Defense has issued two separate tenders for these jackets under the Make in India initiative. In this sequence, procurement tender has been issued for 47,627 jackets through common medium. The procurement process for these bulletproof jackets, to be procured through normal means, is expected to be completed in the next 18-24 months. While the second is for 15,000 jackets under emergency procurement procedures. This procurement process will be finalized in the next three to four months.
Military officials told that the jackets being procured through these two tenders would be of grade-4. These bulletproof vests are known to be effective against steel core bullets. Significantly, after the completion of this procurement process, these jackets will first be provided to the soldiers deployed in terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, it has also come to light that the army will also ensure that the jackets are made in India and none of the material used in its manufacturing is taken from any adversary’s country.
It is worth mentioning that earlier recently the army has issued a tender for the purchase of 750 drones. At the same time, a few days ago a tender was also issued for the purchase of 1,000 surveillance copters. Along with this, the army had also issued tenders for the purchase of 80 remotely operated mini aircraft systems to increase its strength along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.
