Information related to various equipment being prepared for the Indian Army may be leaked. Are important strategic decisions related to military preparedness at risk of being sabotaged? Who can give important information related to the Indian defense sector in ‘pen drive’ to private companies preparing equipment for the army? This apprehension has been expressed by Sreekumar, General Secretary of All India Defense Employees Federation ‘AIDEF’. He said, the pension of such officers associated with defense should be stopped, who after retirement join private companies in the defense sector. This is not good for the security of the country. It is possible that before retirement, those officers may prepare a box of many information. Since they know which company they will join after retirement, in such a situation some important ‘secrets’ of the defense sector can be thrown around.

Government promotes private companies

Sreekumar said, the central government had dissolved the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) last year. The assets of the Ordnance Factory Board, its employees and management were divided among the seven newly established Defense Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs). This is the first step towards privatization. The intention of the central government can be gauged from the fact that it is exaggerating what has been prepared by the defense companies in the first six months. After independence till now ordnance factories have developed hundreds of new products required for the armed forces. The government is not telling anything about them. Armed forces of India are happy with those products. Before this, no drum was ever beaten about the ordnance factories. The central government shuts its mouth about the defense products made by the ordnance factories.

The government had chargesheeted the employees’ union leaders for publishing the names of defense products in their pamphlets. Now the government has opened the door of defense production to the private sector. Their products are being widely promoted. When the private sector produces for the first time something that ordnance factories have been producing for decades, it is heavily promoted by the government. Ordnance factories were grossly neglected. The bulletproof vests and jackets, which were manufactured by Chennai-based OCF Avadi, were supplied to the state police. The same factory is now manufacturing the new Army Digital Uniform. Army units are approaching the factory for individually measured and stitched uniforms for soldiers. There was no publicity about it.

Army officers should not join private company after retirement

Ordnance Factory, Bhandara has sent indigenous rocket motorcharged propellant to Ordnance Factory Khamaria. This achievement has been achieved by Ordnance Factory Bhandara after 15 years of hard work. Till now the same propellant was imported from Sweden by the Ordnance Factory Khamaria. The employees of Ordnance Factory Bhandara fought day and night to make this product in India. As a result, the Ordnance Factory successfully developed the Rocket Motor Charged Propellant 551 weapon. It has passed all the mandatory tests. Will supply it to the army, but the government is not patting any back. Sreekumar said, is this achievement not Make in India. Is it not import substitution, is it not real self-sustaining. The nation should understand the well-planned conspiracies against the ordnance factories.

The government has taken the wrong decision to incorporate Ordnance Factories. General Secretary of All India Defense Employees Federation ‘AIDEF’ said, Sartaj Singh, former DG of OFB, has become a consultant of the defense company. Similarly, some other officers are also preparing the way to join the company after retirement. AIDEF is demanding from the government that after the retirement of army officers, no one should join private defense companies. This is not in the interest of the nation and security. The pension of such former officers should be stopped. In this type of post retirement job, important information related to the defense sector reaches the private company. When one technology reaches another company, it can even go outside the country. It may also fall in the hands of the enemy nation.
