Since forming the government with RJD, the discussion about the role of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in national politics is in full swing. He is being seen as a possible prime ministerial face against Narendra Modi in 2024. Although Nitish Kumar has consistently avoided such questions, the way he has targeted the prime minister in recent times has come to be seen as an alternative to an opposition unity.

What will be the role of Nitish Kumar in the Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2024? It is in the womb of the future. But, answers to such questions can be found in the two-day meetings of the ruling Janata Dal-United (JDU) in Bihar starting on Saturday. The meeting of the National Executive and National Council of JDU is being held at a time when the discussion of making him the prime ministerial face of a united opposition is in full swing. It is believed that to counter the BJP, issues like opposition unity and inflation and unemployment can be raised prominently in this meeting.

Nitish Kumar may be avoiding the questions of the Prime Minister’s claim, but the way JDU is preparing, it is clear that a lot is cooking inside the party. Hoardings and banners have been put up at the party office, indicating their role in national politics. JDU officials from all over the country will participate in this meeting. JD(U) national general secretary Afaq Ahmed Khan said that around 110 party leaders from across the country, including the presidents of its 26 state units, will attend the national executive meeting on Saturday. At the same time, more than 250 leaders of the party will attend the meeting of the National Council on Sunday. Actually, hoardings like “Pradesh Mein Dekha, Desh Mein Dekhga”, “Aagaj Hua, Parivartan Hoga”, “Jumla Nahi, Haqeeqat” and “Mann ki nahi, kaam ki” have been put up at the meeting place.

Ever since Nitish Kumar left the NDA, he has been vocal on the Bharatiya Janata Party. Although he is definitely avoiding the question of the candidature of the post of PM, but he is repeatedly talking about uniting the opposition. Recently, Chief Minister of Telangana Chief Minister KCR also reached Bihar. Here both the leaders held a joint press conference, but as soon as their candidature was discussed in 2024, Nitish stood in the middle. However, he spoke of uniting the opposition here as well.
