Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday lashed out at Urban Naxals. In the conference of environment ministers, he said, “Urban Naxals with political backing kept development works on hold for many years. He said politically-backed “urban naxals and anti-development elements” put on hold the construction of the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada river in Gujarat for several years. He claimed that it would harm the environment.
The PM said, today this dam is ready, so you can see how hollow his claims were. He said that development of the country is not possible without modern infrastructure, but we have seen how construction of modern infrastructure in the country was complicated in the name of environment clearance.
I completed Nehru ji’s work
Prime Minister Modi said, the foundation stone of Sardar Sarovar Dam was laid soon after independence. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had played a big role in this and Pandit Nehru had laid the foundation stone, but all the Urban Naxals came to the ground. Falsely propagated that the campaign is anti-environmental. The work which was started by Nehru ji was completed after my arrival.
Promote circular economy
PM Modi said, due to our track record of fulfilling our commitments, the world is also connecting with India today. Over the years, Gir’s lions, tigers, elephants, one-horned rhinos and leopards have increased in numbers. A new excitement has returned with the homecoming of Cheetah in Madhya Pradesh a few days ago. India has set a target of net zero by 2070. Now the focus of the country is on green growth, green jobs and for achieving all these goals, the role of environment ministry of every state is huge. PM said, I would urge all environment ministers to promote circular economy as much as possible in the states. This will also give strength to our campaign of solid waste management and freedom from single use plastic.
Water scarcity in many states today
During the conference, the Prime Minister said, “Nowadays we see that in the states where there was abundance of water, the ground water used to remain above, today there is a shortage of water. This challenge is not only of the water related department, but the environment department will also have to consider it as an equally big challenge. The PM said, we have shown the world that hardly anyone can touch our speed and our scale in terms of renewable energy. India is leading the world today to deal with big challenges
