Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Samarkand, Uzbekistan on 15-16 September. During this, he will participate in the 22nd meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). PM Modi will visit Samarkand at the invitation of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, during the summit the leaders are expected to review the organization’s activities over the past two decades and discuss possibilities of state and multilateral cooperation. During this, topical issues of regional and global importance can also be discussed. The Prime Minister is likely to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit.
The agenda of this year’s SCO summit is regional peace, women empowerment, poverty alleviation and food security. However, apart from the agenda, there are speculations about Modi-Jinping and Modi-Shahbaz meeting.
Modi-Jinping to meet in SCO meeting?
PM Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to attend the meeting. There are speculations that the two leaders may meet here. However, there has been no official statement from either side on this. Apart from this, the market of speculation is hot about a possible meeting with Pakistan’s PM Shahbaz Sharif. However, experts believe that this is less expected.
