A three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the sacrilege and fire incident at a church in village Thakkarpura in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district. On the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav, Director of the Bureau of Investigation (BOI) B Chandra Shekhar has constituted this special investigation team.

The SIT, headed by Inspector General Police (IGP) Ferozepur Range, also includes SSP Tarn Taran and SP Investigation Tarn Taran as two members. It may be noted that the Chief Minister on Wednesday directed the Director General of Police to investigate the incident closely.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the SIT will investigate the matter on a day-to-day basis and ensure that the final report is presented in the court at the earliest. He said that the SIT can also take the cooperation of any other officer or employee to take help in the investigation of the case.

The DGP said that along with maintaining law and order, the Punjab Police is committed to maintain a peaceful atmosphere and brotherly harmony in Punjab. He said that police teams are probing the matter from all sides and soon all the culprits will be arrested and strict action will be taken against them. Let us tell you that in this case, a case has been registered under section 295-A, 452, 427, and 34 of IPC and section 25 of Arms Act at the police station Sadar Patti of Tarn Taran on August 31, 2022.
