The dominance of UP leaders in BJP politics has increased. In the list of in-charges and co-in-charges of 15 states announced by the party on Friday, six names are from UP. The party has also increased their stature by making Rajya Sabha members Laxmikant Bajpai and Dr. Radha Mohan Agarwal state in-charge.
Laxmikant Bajpai had been running on the margins since he stepped down from the post of BJP state president in 2016. The party reactivated him last year and put him in charge of the campaign to get leaders of opposition parties to join the BJP. Recently, Bajpai was made a Rajya Sabha member. After that he was also appointed as the Chief Whip in the Rajya Sabha. Now the party has made him in-charge of Jharkhand BJP. BJP’s National General Secretary and Rajya Sabha member Arun Singh has been made in-charge of Rajasthan.
In the assembly elections, after cutting the ticket of former Gorakhpur MLA Dr. Radha Mohan Agrawal, the party had made Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath its candidate. After that the party sent Dr. Radha Mohan to the Rajya Sabha. Now he has increased his stature by making him in-charge of Lakshadweep and co-in-charge of Kerala. After the Srikant Tyagi controversy in Noida, Gautam Budh Nagar MP Dr. Mahesh Sharma, who came under the target of Tyagi Samaj, has been made in-charge of Tripura by the party. Etawah MP Ramshankar Katheria has been made co-in-charge of Madhya Pradesh, while Basti MP Harish Dwivedi has been made co-in-charge of Bihar.
Organization General Secretary also from UP
In Rajasthan, BJP’s organization general secretary Chandrashekhar, Gujarat BJP organization general secretary Ratnakar, Jharkhand BJP organization minister Karmaveer Singh, Jharkhand and Bihar BJP regional organization minister Nagendra Kumar are also from UP.
If made in-charge and co-in-charge, how will you contest elections?
According to party sources, the state in-charge and co-in-charge have been posted in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The party has made Gautam Budh Nagar MP Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Etawah MP Ramshankar Katheria and Basti MP Harish Dwivedi as co-in-charge of Bihar. Discussions have started that if three MPs have been made in-charge and co-in-charge, then they will handle the election system in the states with their charge and co-charge at the time of Lok Sabha elections or will contest Lok Sabha themselves.
