For the past few days, there have been many reports about opposition unity. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has met many opposition leaders for this. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao is also engaged in such efforts. NCP chief Sharad Pawar is also said to be active behind the scenes.

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and YSR Congress chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik are nowhere to be seen. These leaders seem to have distanced themselves from the realm of a united opposition.

In such a situation, the question is arising that why leaders like Mayawati, Owaisi, Jagan Mohan Reddy and Naveen Patnaik have distanced themselves from the united opposition? Why these parties are not becoming part of a united opposition? Let’s understand the political equation…

Why are Mayawati, Reddy and Owaisi away?
While big leaders like Nitish Kumar, KCR, Mamta Banerjee, Sharad Pawar are trying to unite the opposition parties, Mayawati, Jagan Mohan Reddy, Naveen Patnaik and Asaduddin Owaisi are keeping their distance. We spoke to senior journalist Pramod Kumar Singh regarding this. “Opposition unity is a big challenge. Be it Nitish Kumar, Mamata Banerjee, Sharad Pawar, Arvind Kejriwal or any other leader. He would not want to let the leader of the other party lead him. Mayawati, Jagan Mohan Reddy, Naveen Patnaik and Owaisi know this very well. Pramod further explains about this in three points.

1. Why Mayawati distanced herself: The situation of Bahujan Samaj Party has deteriorated significantly in the last few years. In such a situation, Mayawati is first trying to unite her own party. Afresh she is working on the formation and expansion of the party. Mayawati knows that if she comes with the opposition without strengthening herself, then she may have to bear the loss in the coming times.

Strong parties will take all decisions on their own accord and Mayawati will have to accept it. That’s why Mayawati is now focusing on her party instead of joining the opposition. The second reason is also that Mayawati had an alliance with the Samajwadi Party in the Lok Sabha elections. Then they did not get much benefit from it.

2. Owaisi himself parted or did the opposition parting? , AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi is also nowhere to be seen under the siege of the opposition. Owaisi is trying to keep himself away from the opposition. Owaisi knows that if he fights on his own, there will be no division of his votes. Apart from this, he will also be able to expand his party in Muslim-majority areas. If he goes with the opposition, he will not be able to do this.

3. What about Jagan Mohan Reddy and Naveen Patnaik? , Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy also seems to be far from a united opposition. Similarly, Naveen Patnaik is also keeping distance from the opposition. Reddy and Patnaik had also supported the NDA in the presidential and vice-presidential elections. Both have very good personal relations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In such a situation, it can be said that in the coming days also, keep a distance from both the opposition. Assembly elections are to be held in both the states in 2024 itself. The position of both is very strong in their respective states. Both do not want to join the opposition and divide the seats in the state elections as well. That’s why for the time being Reddy and Patnaik want to do politics by staying separately.

Who is doing what to unite the opposition?
Nitish Kumar had reached Delhi on a three-day tour last week. Here he met leaders of opposition parties including Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, Sitaram Yechury, D Raja, HD Deve Gowda, HD Kumaraswamy, Om Prakash Chautala, Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Sharad Pawar and many others.

TMC chief Mamata Banerjee is also busy expanding her party. Mamta broke the leaders of other parties in many states and got them included in TMC. Apart from this, Mamta is busy in reaching out to the regional parties of the opposition. Similarly, Telangana Chief Minister KCR is trying to unite the political parties of the South. NCP chief Sharad Pawar is also in constant touch with the leaders of the opposition.
